Nigerian forward Peter Olayinka has successfully completed surgery to repair an achilles tendon injury, Afrosport reports.
The 28-year-old sustained the injury during Red Star Belgrade’s 5-1 defeat at Monaco in a matchday three encounter in the UEFA Champions League.
The Nigeria international reportedly underwent the procedure in Finland and Red Star revealed in a statement that they are yet to ascertain his return period.
A statement on their website read: “Peter Olayinka was successfully operated on in Finland by a famous doctor, after an Achilles tendon injury due to a blow he received during a match in Monaco.
“Everything went well and we are waiting for the post-operative period to pass in order to estimate the return time of Zvezda’s football player. We wish him a speedy recovery and return to the field!”
Olayinka will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, having scored two goals and provided two assists in 11 matches in all competitions.
Red Star, leaders of the Serbian SuperLiga, will face Tekstilac in the Serbian Cup first round on Wednesday before hosting Vojvodina in a league game on Saturday.
