Nigerian international Leon Balogun on Tuesday penned a heartfelt message to Rangers fans, confirming his exit from the Scottish club, Afrosport reports.
Balogun had two spells at Rangers, winning the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup in his first stint from 2020 to 2022. He made a return to the club 12 months later, scoring once and providing one assist in 49 appearances in his second stint.
Balogun, whose contract at Rangers will expire at the end of June, looks certain to exit the club, who have decided against offering him an extension.
The 36-year-old took to social media to thank Rangers fans for their support through the years, adding that it has been a “great, great privilege” to play for “this massive club”.
It read: “It’s that time again. No caption could summarise all that is going through my mind as I’m writing these lines. It’s been nothing short of an honour, a pleasure and a great, great privilege to represent this massive club – twice.
“It’s been nothing short of an honour, a pleasure and a great, great privilege to represent this massive club – twice,” he said.
“So many memories, good ones as well as a few tough ones. But it’s the latter especially that made my love for the club grow even stronger.”
Balogun regrets that he was not given the chance of a goodbye in front of the Rangers support.
“Unfortunately I wasn’t afforded that opportunity, which saddens me as I would have liked to to have walked round Ibrox one last time and returned all the love and support you’ve given me during my two stints,” he added.
“I don’t know when I’ll be back, but I promise I won’t be a stranger. You’ve become more than just my club, you’ve become family. And for that I will be forever grateful.”
Rangers finished second in the Scottish Premiership with 75 points after 38 matches, 17 adrift of champions Celtic.
