National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Washington Spirit on Tuesday announced the signing of Super Falcons forward Gift Monday from Spanish side UD Tenerife on a three-year deal, Afrosport reports.
The Spirit triggered her release clause, which was reported to be around €200,000, with the deal including a team option for 2028.
“Gift has unique qualities as a forward and will add a new layer to our attacking third,” said head coach Jonathan Giraldez. “We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team in the near future.”
Monday’s move to Washington comes after spending two and a half years with Tenerife, where she has 19 goals and seven assists in 66 matches, including 10 goals and three assists in 19 matches in the ongoing 2024-25 season.
Before her move to Spain, Monday, who won Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) highest goal scorer award in 2012, was formerly on the books of Nigerian clubs FC Robo and COD United Amazons.
“I am excited to join the Washington Spirit family as I have long wanted to play for the club,” said Monday. “I can’t wait to start living the dream with the Spirit!”
She made her senior international debut for Nigeria in 2019 and was named to the Super Falcons 23-player team for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
