Nigeria’s Dessers makes declaration after reaching double digit league goals with Rangers

Cyriel Dessers says he is in a good place after netting a brace in Rangers’ 3-1 win over Ross County on Wednesday night that took him to 10 Scottish Premiership goals for the season.

The 29-year-old Nigerian forward scored twice in the first half to give the Gers a 2-1 halftime lead before John Souttar added the third in added time of the second half to hand Rangers all three points.

Dessers believes if Rangers can up their game it will have a positive impact on his goalscoring contributions as the Glasgow outfit look to end Celtic’s quest for a third consecutive league title.

“I am in a good place right now and I want to stay there. I am coming into a lot of good positions to score, there are a lot of chances, and it is all about efficiency,” Dessers said on the club website.

“If we can get the efficiency up, or I can get it up even more then I can provide a lot of goals for the team for the rest of the season so I think it is a nice goal and we will get there.”

Dessers added: “It was an important three points because there was a lot of talking before the game, so I am happy we got it here at home. It was a good win, it could’ve been more but we have to be happy with the three points.

“I think we started well and then out of nothing they made it 1-1 and that took us off a little, but I think after a few minutes we got back into our game and luckily, we could score right before half time, that was an important moment, and we had a lot of chances.

“We were sometimes unlucky, sometimes the finishing could’ve been better, their goalkeeper had a lot of saves but let’s save these goals for the rest of the season and in the games where we need them to win.

“We just kept doing what we are always doing and what we always try to do and today we were a little bit unlucky, but I hope next time we are a bit more lucky when we need it.”

Dessers is Rangers’ third-highest goalscorer this season with 14 goals behind James Tavernier (17 goals) and Abdallah Sima (15 goals).
