Team Nigeria on Monday exited the 2025 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) African Club Championships in Tunis, Afrosport reports.
The Canaan Queens of Calabar, Nigeria’s sole representatives, lost 3-0 to Egypt’s Petrojet in the semi-finals of the tournament at the El-Menzah Sports Hall.
The team led by Fatimo Bello, Janet Effiong, Cecilia Otu-Akpan, and Hope Udoaka picked wins against club sides from Tunisia and Madagascar in the group phase.
However, in their last group match, the Nigerian ladies fell 3-0 to defending champions Zamalek of Egypt, finishing second in the group before advancing to the semifinals.
Meanwhile, eight club sides from Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ethiopia, and Madagascar are competing in the women’s event, with two Egyptian teams, Al Zamalek and PETROJET, to face off in finals later this evening.
In the men’s category, nine teams from Egypt, Algeria, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Madagascar, Congo DR, and Cote d’Ivoire are vying for honors, with Egypt’s ENPPI as the defending champions.
Meanwhile, the ITTF African Cup is scheduled to begin on Tuesday in Tunis.
