Nigerian government fulfils housing, land pledge to AFCON 2023 Super Eagles squad

The Federal Government of Nigeria has delivered on its housing, land, and national honours promises to the Super Eagles squad that finished runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, Afrosport reports.

Members of the team were presented with their houses, land documents, and certificates of national honours— Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) — at their AFCON 2025 camp in Morocco.

Key players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi were among the beneficiaries. This fulfilment follows a commitment made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in February 2024 after a reception for the team.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau highlighted the importance of honoring these commitments, while NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko noted that this timely action marks a significant change from past practices, where rewards took years to be realised.

The prompt delivery of these pledges has been positively received in Nigerian football and is expected to boost morale as the Super Eagles prepare for future competitions, including the ongoing 2025 AFCON.
