Nigeria has officially been awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 WAFU B U-17 Championship, with the tournament set to take place in September, Afrosport reports.
The country will welcome the region’s top youth football talent for the age-grade competition with Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Niger Republic, Togo, Benin Republic, Ghana and hosts Nigeria set to lock horns.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne and the newly-refurbished MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta will host the event.
Nigeria’s U1-7 team, the Golden Eaglets, will be among the favorites as they compete for regional supremacy and qualification to the continental stage. The WAFU B Championship serves as a qualifying tournament for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Executive Board Member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Ogun State Football Association chairman Ganiyu Majekodunmi expressed confidence the state will deliver a great tournament.
He explained that the state boasts the necessary infrastructure, organisational capacity and passionate fan base to deliver a masterpiece.
