The Nigeria Rugby League have begun the search for a coach to head the national team ahead of the 2025 Rugby League World Cup in France.
The announcement was made in a circular released by the governing body as the country prepares to participate in a couple of tournaments that could seal its World Cup fate.
The Nigeria Rugby League stated the coaching role will run from February until November 2025 when the World Cup concludes. The coach will lead the team in friendlies leading to the Middle East-Africa Rugby League Cup (MEA Cup) between June and August, a possible repechage with the Cook Islands if the MEA Cup is won and also a series of friendlies leading to the World Cup if the repechage is won.
The coach will also get to work with a mix of local and international players, including the likes of Jason Saab, Jayden Okunbor, Rio Corkill, Daniel Okoro, Abdullah Balogun and Tuoyo Egodo, who have pledged international allegiance to Nigeria.
Nigeria are two-time champions of the MEA Cup, defeating Morocco and most recently West African rivals Ghana in 2019 and 2022 respectively.
