Nigeria qualify for 2023 FIVB Girls U-19 World Championship

Nigeria has booked a spot at the 2023 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Girls’ U19 World Championship to be held in Croatia and Hungary from August 1 to 11.

They finished third at the 2022 Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Girls’ U19 African Championship in Abuja, behind Cameroon and Egypt in first and second, respectively.

The FIVB congratulated Team Nigeria on their performance and efforts in qualifying for the upcoming tournament through a statement signed by project manager, Yiting Cao.

The world volleyball governing body urged Nigeria to confirm its participation in the championship, complete the attached entry form and submit the form by Friday, February 3.

The President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod, appreciated the FIVB’s decision to allow three African nations into the World Championship.

Nimrod also reiterated the development and exposure the competition will bring to the young players.

He said: “Cameroon and Egypt placed first and second respectively at the 2022 CAVB Volleyball Girls’ U19 African Championship in Abuja where they booked their tickets to the World Championship.

“The slot given to Nigeria by FIVB means we can showcase our talents to the world in Croatia and Hungary. The female players can also have the opportunity of being selected by scouts of foreign teams.

The 2023 FIVB Girls’ U19 World Championship will be the 18th edition of the age-grade competition and will be contested by female Volleyball players born on or after January 1, 2005.

The tournament will feature 24 countries from five continents, as well as the two hosts, with record winners China looking to add to their four titles.

Team Nigeria will be hoping to get Africa’s first medal at the championship when it kicks off in August.
