Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted he does not have full control over the future of Alexander Isak, Afrosport reports.
The 25-year-old Swedish striker of Eritrean heritage is seeking a move out of the club and was left out of the Magpies’ pre-season preparations.
The Tyneside outfit have since lost to Celtic and Arsenal, and speaking ahead of their next game against the K-League XI in Seoul, Howe revealed the club have not received any offer for Isak despite reported interest from Liverpool.
“He [Isak] is still our player. He’s contracted to us,” he said per BBC Sport.
“We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us.
“My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control. We have not received a formal offer for Alex from any club.”
Isak scored 27 goals in 42 competitive games last season as Newcastle qualified for the UEFA Champions League by finishing fifth in the Premier League.
They also defeated Liverpool to win the EFL Cup, ending a 70-year domestic trophy drought.
