New Boavista signing Ibrahim Alhassan ready to connect with Nigerian teammates

Ibrahim Alhassan is ready to connect with his Nigerian teammates Chidozie Awaziem and Bruno Onyemaechi after completing a transfer to Boavista from Belgian second tier side Beerschot.

The former Akwa United star is the first summer signing for the Portuguese outfit having put pen to the paper a two-year deal.

This will be Alhassan’s second stint in Portugal having previously played for CD Nacional between 2018 and 2022, and is excited to return to the country he calls his “second home”.

“I am very happy. Signing for Boavista was an easy decision, firstly because I know how great the club is and also because I have already played in Portugal, which I consider to be my second home,” Alhassan told the club website.

“I am very excited about this challenge and I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and start this adventure.

“I know Bruno [Onyemaechi] and Chidozie personally. I played with Chidozie when I was in the Nigerian national team and I had already faced Bruno when he was still at Feirense. I also shared the dressing room with Filipe Ferreira at Nacional and I remember playing against Ibrahima Camara. This connection with my teammates could be important for me to adapt more easily.”

Ibrahim Alhassan also had a stint with Austria Vienna on loan while with Akwa United in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

He also featured for Wikki Tourists and was capped three times with the Nigeria U-20 national team, winning the 2015 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations title.

He has also been capped twice for the Super Eagles in friendlies against Togo and Corsica in 2017.
