NBA: Wembanyama, Holmgren headline All-Rookie teams selection

Number one draft pick and San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama, alongside Oklahoma City Thunder’s Chet Holmgrem, headline the All-Rookie Teams released on Monday by the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Wembanyama, the 2023–24 NBA Rookie of the Year award winner, and Holmgren have both been unanimously selected to this season’s NBA All-Rookie First Team after receiving all 99 first-place votes.

The pair of 7-foot centers are joined by three other rookies—Charlotte Hornets’ forward Brandon Miller, Miami Heat’s Jamie Jaquez Jr., and Brandin Podziemski of the Golden State Warriors—on the All-Rookie First Team.

Wembanyama, who led all rookies in points (21.4), rebounds (10.6), and blocks (3.6) per game this season, got a total of 198 points in the voting results, the same as Holmgren, who finished the regular season averaging 16.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game for the West-leading Thunder.

Miller, on the other hand, got 97 first place votes having averaged 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 assists this season; Jaquez Jr., with season averages of 11.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, got 89 first place votes; while Podziemski, who led the league in total charges drawn (38) and charges drawn per game (0.51), settled for 64 first place votes with season averages of 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.

Meanwhile, GG Jackson II (Memphis Grizzlies), Cason Wallace (OKC Thunder), Keyonte George (Utah Jazz), Amen Thompson (Houston Rockets), and Dereck Lively II (Dallas Mavericks) all make up the All-Rookie Second Team.

The voting, which was carried out by a global media panel of sportswriters and broadcasters, awarded two points for each first-team vote and one point for each second-team vote.
