NBA: Warriors star Green issued one-game suspension

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has been suspended for one game without pay after his clash with Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis during Game 2 of their first-round playoff clash on Monday night.

The suspension was announced on Wednesday by Joe Dumars, the NBA’s Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations, with the punishment based in part on Green’s history of “unsportsmanlike behaviour.”.

The four-time champion stepped on Sabonis’ chest after the Lithuanian-American star had initially held his right ankle in a lock. The duo were penalized during the game, with Green receiving a flagrant foul 2 and consequently ejected, while Sabonis was handed a technical foul.

The Warriors were eventually defeated 114-106 at the Golden 1 Center as the Kings took advantage of their home-court advantage to take the first two games of the seven-game series.

Sabonis, however, returned to the game and ended with 24 points, nine rebounds, and four assists in 40 minutes, while Green only managed eight points, five assists, and four rebounds before his ejection in the fourth quarter.

The four-time All-Star will now miss Game 3 of the series as the Warriors welcome the Kings to the Chase Center on Thursday for the first match on their home court.
