NBA: Sixers’ Joel Embiid fined $75,000 for ‘obscene gestures’

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid on Friday was fined by the NBA for making “obscene gestures on the playing court” during their 118-114 win over the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day, Afrosport reports.

The sanction, which was announced by Joe Dumars, NBA Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations, follows the incident that occurred during the first half at TD Garden in Boston.

Embiid, who finished the game with 27 points and nine rebounds, celebrated a layup in the first half with the famous wrestling “DX crotch chop” gesture. He also tried rattling Boston fans after hitting a three-pointer just before the halftime break.

The 30-year-old has been fined for the wrestling gesture in the past and has only played nine games this season due to injuries and a three-game suspension for an altercation with a journalist.

Embiid is averaging 21.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 0.9 blocks per game in 28 minutes per game this season while shooting 43% from the floor.
