NBA: SGA, Jokic and Antetokounmpo headline 2023-24 All-NBA First Team selection

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced the 2023–24 All-NBA Teams, with five players each selected from the first, second, and third teams announced late on Wednesday.

Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic, alongside Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and two-time league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, all headline the 2023–24 All-NBA First Team selection.

Joining them on the list is Dallas Mavericks guard and this season’s scoring champion, Luka Doncic, as well as Boston Celtics All-Star forward Jayson Tatum.

Jokic and Gilgeous-Alexander were both unanimously selected for the All-NBA First Team after receiving all 99 first-place votes following ballots from a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

The Denver Nuggets center earns his fourth First Team selection, and Gilgeous-Alexander gets his second. Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo gets his sixth consecutive First Team selection; Doncic earns his fifth consecutive First Team selection; and Tatum is named to the All-NBA First Team for the third consecutive time.

Additionally, the 2023–24 All-NBA Second Team is also star-studded, consisting of New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, LA Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard, and Los Angeles Lakers forward-center Anthony Davis.

Brunson and Edwards, who have both had standout seasons, earn their debut spots in the All-NBA Team selections. However, two-time NBA champion Durant earns his 11th All-NBA Team selection; Leonard gets his sixth; and Davis gets his fifth.

The league also announced the All-NBA Third Team, led by the duo of Lakers forward LeBron James and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry. Also on the team are Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis, Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, and Suns guard Devin Booker.

With this selection, James, in his 21st season, gets his record-extending 20th All-NBA Team selection, having been named to either the First, Second, or Third Team every single season since the 2004-2005 campaign, missing out only in his rookie year.

Four-time champion and two-time league MVP Curry earns his 10th All-NBA Team selection and his second All-NBA Third Team selection. Both Sabonis and Booker get their second, while Haliburton makes his debut on the All-NBA Team.

The selected players were chosen without a keen interest on positions. Players were awarded five points for each vote to the First Team, three points for each vote to the Second Team and one point for each vote to the Third Team.
