NBA Round Up: Celtics, Wolves, Thunder clinch road wins; Mavericks beat Spurs

Klay Thompson enjoyed the best of starts as he set a new record of 3-pointers in his Dallas Mavericks debut to help them to a 120-109 win over the San Antonio Spurs at the American Airlines Arena on Thursday night.

Thompson scored six 3s, the most of any Mavericks player in their debut, and Luka Doncic was just short of a triple-double, finishing with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.

Dereck Lively II finished with a 15-point and 11-rebound double-double, and Kyrie Irving had 15 points, while Jeremy Sochan and Julian Champagnie tallied 18 points each, and Victor Wembanyama finished with 17 points.

 

Elsewhere, the Boston Celtics picked up where they left off in their opening game as they overcame the Washington Wizards 122-102 at the Capital One Arena on Thursday night.

Jaylen Brown led the defending champions with 27 points and eight rebounds, and Jayson Tatum recorded his second double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds as they improved to 2-0 to lead the East.

At the Ball Arena in Denver, the Nuggets were undone 102-87 by the Oklahoma City Thunder, who were led by Chet Holmgren and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Holmgren finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds, Shai added a game-high 28 points, while Nikola Jokic tallied the first triple-double of the season with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists in a losing effort for the Nuggets.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves bounced back from their opening defeat to the Lakers by beating the Sacramento Kings 117-115 at Golden 1 Center.

Julius Randle poured in 35 points and Anthony Edwards ended with 32 points for the Wolves, while DeMar DeRozan led the Kings with 26 points in his debut.
