NBA reveals sanctions for players involved in Pistons, Timberwolves brawl

The NBA on Tuesday announced the sanctions for the brawl that ensued during the Minnesota Timberwolves 123-104 win over the Detroit Pistons at Target Center on Sunday.

Joe Dumars, NBA Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations, announced that Pistons center Isaiah Stewart has been suspended for two games without pay for escalating an on-court altercation, a punishment that is based in part on his repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts.

Additionally, Pistons forward Ron Holland II and guard Marcus Sasser, as well as Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid and guard Donte DiVincenzo, have each been handed one-game suspensions without pay for their roles in the on-court altercation.

The incident began in the second quarter when Holland committed a defensive foul on Reid, who confronted the Pistons’ forward. The incident escalated with players becoming entangled and falling into the stands, and all five players involved in the brawl were assessed technical fouls and ejected from the game.

Stewart will begin serving his two-game suspension on Wednesday night when the Pistons visit the Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center, same as Holland and Sasser, who will also serve their one-game suspensions.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves duo of Reid and DiVincenzo will serve their suspensions on Tuesday night against the Denver Nuggets at the Ball Arena.
