NBA: Paul George reportedly agrees four-year max deal with 76ers

The twists and turns of NBA free agency kicked off on Sunday, June 30, and one of the biggest news stories coming out of the league involves nine-time All-Star Paul George, who is reportedly heading to Philadelphia after agreeing to a four-year deal with the 76ers.

George will sign a maximum contract worth around $212 million, with the deal expected to include a player option in the final season of 2027–28.

The 34-year-old, who has spent the last five years with the Los Angeles Clippers and the last seven in the Western Conference, having also played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, will return to the Eastern Conference, where he previously played for seven years with the Indiana Pacers, the franchise that drafted him in 2010.

George will partner with 2022–23 season MVP Joel Embiid and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey as the Sixers continue to search for a fourth title in franchise history and their first since the 1983 season.

One of the league’s best two-way stars, George, who has been selected to an All-NBA team six times, including a first-team selection in 2019, averaged 23 points, 6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in over 263 regular-season games with the Clippers.

Since entering the league 14 years ago, he is one of eight players to make at least nine All-Star teams, joining LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, James Harden, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Anthony Davis.

In the just-concluded 2023–24 season, George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in 74 games, the most he’s played in the past five seasons.

Alongside George, the Sixers have reportedly also reached vital agreements with guard Kelly Oubre on a two-year $16.3 million deal, as well as veteran guard Eric Gordon and center Andre Drummond.
