NBA: Mavericks’ Anthony Davis undergoes surgery to fix detached retina

Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis has undergone surgery to repair a detached retina sustained during the 2024–25 season, Afrosport reports.

Davis, who joined Dallas from the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster trade involving Luka Doncic in February, is expected to make full recovery before the start of training camp.

The 32-year-old featured in nine regular season games for the Mavericks, averaging 20 points and 10.1 rebounds while shooting 46.1% from the field.

He stepped up in the play-in tournament, averaging 33.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in two appearances. However, his efforts were not enough to lift Dallas past the Memphis Grizzlies, as they fell 120–106 and missed out on the play-offs.

With fellow All-Star Kyrie Irving still recovering from an ACL injury, much of the Mavericks’ offensive responsibilities will fall on Davis. The 10-time NBA All-Star is expected to lead a locker room filled with both seasoned stars and rising talents, including Klay Thompson, Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively II, and 2025 No.1 draft pick Cooper Flagg.
