NBA: Lakers unsure of LeBron James’ 82-game target amid shooting slump

LeBron James’ goal of playing all 82 regular season games in the 2024-25 season looks unrealistic as the 39-year-old is currently battling a shooting slump, Afrosport reports.

James, who has scored 20 or more points just once in his last six games, has missed 19 straight 3-pointers and scored 10 points on 4-for-16 shooting in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 109-80 blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.

Lakers head coach JJ Reddick, however, is unsure whether James’s 82-game target is sustainable with the four-time NBA champion currently in his 22nd season in the league.

“I mean… I think we are measuring the players, and we can tell if a guy’s running hot or whatever,” Reddick stated. “He [LeBron James] does a remarkable job of taking care of his body and getting recovery.

“I don’t know that’s in the best interest of him and us if he does that, but if he’s feeling well and feeling good, then he should play. But we obviously want to… Manage that as best as we can.”

James, who has six triple-doubles this season, has played in all 21 Lakers’ games this campaign, with the team boasting a 12-9 record and sitting eighth in the Western Conference.

The four-time NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) is averaging 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 9.1 assists, shooting 48.2% from the field and just below 35% from beyond the arc.

James and the Lakers will wrap up their four-game road trip against the Miami Heat on Wednesday and Atlanta Hawks on Friday.
