NBA: Kuminga impresses in preseason as Warriors beat Kings in overtime

Congolese star Jonathan Kuminga continued to show massive improvements ahead of his third year in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with an impressive game-high 28-point display in the Golden State Warriors’ 121-115 overtime win over the Sacramento Kings.

The Warriors were without the experienced backcourt duo of Stephen Curry and Chris Paul, but Kuminga dropped his third straight 20-point performance to help the seven-time champions to their third consecutive win in the preseason.

The 21-year-old selected by the Warriors with the 7th overall pick in the 2021 Draft grabbed six rebounds, shot 7-of-18 from the field, and shot 13-of-17 from the free throw line in 34 minutes at the Golden 1 Center.

Canadian forward Andrew Wiggins added 20 points in 22 minutes for the Warriors, with Dominican point guards Lester Quinones (18 points) and Moses Moody (16 points) combining for 34 points off the bench for Steve Kerr’s team.

Domantas Sabonis finished with a 19-point and 11-rebound double-double in 25 minutes, while De’Aaron Fox had 17 points, grabbed 5 boards, and finished with a game-high six assists in 25 minutes.

Trey Lyles and Keon Ellis both scored 11 points apiece off the bench, and Keegan Murray, who broke the record for most three-pointers made in a season by a rookie, finished with nine points and six rebounds and shot 3-of-6 from the 3-point line as the Kings remain without a win in three preseason games.

The two Western Conference teams will face off again on Wednesday night at Chase Center in the second game of a double-header.
