NBA: Kings’ Malik Monk to miss remainder of regular season with knee injury

The Sacramento Kings will be without guard Malik Monk for the remainder of the regular season, with the 26-year-old set for a spell on the injury list.

Monk, who is having a career-high season in points and assists, has a sprained MCL in his right knee, which is expected to keep him out for four to six weeks.

The former Los Angeles Lakers man sustained the injury in Sacramento’s 107-103 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night after Luka Doncic fell on his right knee following a drive to the basket. Monk exited the game and was unable to make a return.

He will be re-evaluated after a month, and his injury adds to the season-ending left shoulder injury suffered by Kevin Huerter as the Kings continue to push for an automatic playoff spot.

Monk, who is a serious candidate for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year as he leads all players in points (1,110) and assists (370) off the bench, is averaging 15.4 points and 5.1 assists in 26.0 minutes per game across 72 games this season. He is currently shooting 44.3% from the field, including 35.0% from the 3-point mark.
