NBA: Durant overtakes Shaquille O’Neal, moves into eighth on all-time scoring list

Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant is headed to the Houston Rockets after a blockbuster trade with the Phoenix Suns, Afrosport reports.

The 15-time NBA All-Star, who got the news while at the Fanatics Fest in New York, heads to the Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in this year’s NBA Draft and five second-round selections.

The deal, which is expected to be finalised on July 6, when the NBA’s new league year begins, will see Durant, who departs the Suns after spending less than three seasons in Phoenix, join his fifth team in the NBA.

The 36-year-old has previously played for the Seattle SuperSonics/Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets.

The Rockets finished as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference last season and are now considered more of a title threat, having added Durant, who averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists over 62 games last campaign.

Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists, shooting 50.2% from the field and 39% from beyond the 3-point line.

He currently has one year left on his contract, worth $54.7 million, and is eligible for a two-year extension with the Rockets.
