NBA: Grizzlies guard Ja Morant week-to-week with right hip injury

Two-time All-Star Ja Morant will be out on a week-to-week basis after suffering a right hip injury, the Memphis Grizzlies announced on Saturday.

Morant, who was seen using crutches, sat out the Grizzlies’ win over the Washington Wizards on Friday night at FedExForum.

The 25-year-old reportedly suffered the injury during their 131-114 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.

The Grizzlies confirmed that Morant had suffered extreme right hip flexion after he was “bumped in the air” by a Lakers player in an attempt to catch a lob in the third quarter. The MRI tests also showed he sustained a partial posterior hip subluxation without a dislocation and multiple Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains.

Morant, who played only nine games last campaign due to a season-ending shoulder surgery, has featured in eight of Memphis’ 10 games this time around.

He is averaging 20.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 9.1 assists this season, leading the Grizzlies to a 6-4 record in the West, where they sit fourth in the standings.

Morant’s injury adds to a growing list for Memphis already missing Marcus Smart (right ankle sprain), Desmond Bane (right oblique strain), and GG Jackson II (fifth metatarsal fracture).

The Grizzlies head to Portland to take on the Trail Blazers on Sunday night, their first of three road games, which also includes a trip to the Lakers as well as the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Cup.
