NBA: Curry, Tatum win Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry and Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum have both been named the Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for Week 2 in the NBA.

Two-time league MVP Curry warded off competition from Anthony Davis (Lakers), Luka Doncic (Mavericks), Anthony Edwards (Timberwolves), Jerami Grant (Trail Blazers), Nikola Jokic (Nuggets), and Victor Wembanyama (Spurs) to grab his 20th career weekly honor and become just the 13th player in NBA history to achieve such a feat.

Curry averaged 30.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.25 steals in 31.1 minutes while shooting 57.4% from the field, 52.3% from 3-point range, and 87.0% from the free throw line as Golden State finished the week with a 3-1 win-loss record.

The four-time NBA champion kicked off Week 2 action with a season-high 42-point performance against the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center on October 30. He put up 21 points against the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center two days later.

Curry then led the Warriors to their fourth straight road win with 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists against the Oklahoma City Thunders, including hitting the game-winning layup—the ninth in his career—with 0.2 seconds on the clock as the Warriors registered their first win of the in-season tournament.

Despite the Warriors losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers, he scored 28 points and also extended his NBA-record streak to 252 consecutive regular-season games with at least one 3-pointer, having hit at least four threes in all the seven games he has played this season.

In the East, four-time All-Star Tatum won his 10th career Player of the Week award and sits third in Celtics franchise history behind Larry Bird (14 times) and Paul Pierce (17 times).

He overcame competition from seven other top performers in the East: Scottie Barnes (Raptors), Joel Embiid and Kelly Oubre Jr. (76ers), Tyrese Haliburton (Pacers), Donovan Mitchell (Cavaliers), Dejounte Murray (Hawks), and Cam Thomas (Nets).

Tatum led the Celtics to a 3-0 week, averaging 31.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists as they cruised to victories against the Washington Wizards, Indiana Pacers, and Brooklyn Nets.

In that three-game stretch, Tatum shot 58.9% from the field, 54.2% from three, and 94.1% from the free throw line. He dropped a cool 33 points against the Wizards, a 30-point and 12-rebound double-double in their historic blowout win over the Pacers, and he then had another double-double with 32 points and 11 rebounds against the Nets to help the Celtics remain the only undefeated team in the league with a 5-0 record.
