The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) on Tuesday announced a new format for the 2025 All-Star Game set to take place at Golden State Warriors’ Chase Center in San Francisco, Afrosport reports.
The league announced that this season’s All-Star game, which is scheduled to take place on 16 February 2025, will feature a mini-tournament with four teams and three games played, with the winning team taking home $1.8 million, or $125,000 per player.
The four teams will face off in two semifinal matchups, and the winning teams from each game will advance to face each other in the championship game, with the winner of each game being the first team to reach or surpass the 40-point mark.
24 All-Stars will be drafted into three teams of eight by TNT’s Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith, with the trio expected to selected their rosters live on the network’s broadcast on 6 February.
The last team of eight will be the winner of the Rising Stars competition played on February 14, which Candace Parker will captain. The Rising Stars features the standout first- and second-year NBA players as well as top performers from the NBA G League.

Voting for the NBA All-Star opens on Thursday and ends on Monday, January 20, with the starters to be revealed three days later and the reserves on January 30. The voting process, however, remains unchanged with fans determining 50% of the starters, while the other half is handpicked by the players and members of the media, with NBA head coaches to selected the reserves.
The four All-Star game teams will be led by coaching staff of NBA teams. The coaches of the top ranked teams in each conference through games played 2 February will each handle an NBA All-Star team, while the assistant coach from their coaching staff will oversee the remaining NBA team and the Rising Stars champion.
