Nations League: Gravenberch withdraws from Netherlands squad due to injury

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has withdrawn from the Netherlands squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final against Spain due to injury, Afrosport reports.

The 22-year-old picked up a knock during the Reds’ 2-1 EFL Cup final defeat by Newcastle United at Wembley on Sunday and has not recovered in time for the Oranje’s clash with La Roja.

Gravenberch has been capped 18 times for the Netherlands, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

“Ryan Gravenberch has left the Oranje’s training camp this evening. The midfielder is still suffering from an injury sustained over the weekend that prevents him from playing in the matches against Spain. Take care, Ryan!,” the Oranje said in a post on X.

Dutch head coach Ronald Koeman has decided not to call a replacement for the Spain clash, the first leg taking place in Rotterdam on Thursday before the return leg in Valencia on Sunday.

The injury to Gravenberch could see him in doubt for the Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield on April 2 after the international break.

He has been ever-present in Arne Slot’s team this season, making 41 appearances in all competitions, providing two assists
