Mount sends emotional message to Chelsea fans amid imminent departure

English midfielder Mason Mount has sent a heartfelt message to Chelsea fans following his imminent move to Manchester United.

The 24-year-old has reportedly completed his medicals with the Red Devils after an agreement was struck with the Blues some days ago. United agreed a five-year deal worth around £55 million plus £5 million add-ons for the transfer of the Chelsea academy graduate.

Mount took to social media on Tuesday evening to say goodbye to Chelsea fans, explaining that the move “is right for me at this moment in my career”, with reports that the contracts are being finalized and an announcement from the Old Trafford outfit imminent.

In the farewell social media video to the Blues’ fans, Mount, who joined Chelsea at the age of six, said: “Hi Chelsea fans. Given the speculation over the last couple of months, this may not come as a surprise to you that I’ve made the decision to leave Chelsea. I feel you deserve more than just a written statement.

“So, I wanted to tell you directly how grateful I’ve been for all of your support over the last 18 years. I know some of you won’t be happy with my decision, but it’s what is right for me at this moment in my career.

“I joined Chelsea when I was six years old and we’ve been through a lot together. Winning the Youth Cup, my player of the year awards, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup, and the unforgettable night where we won the Champions League.

“I want to say thank you to the academy for being so influential to me from a young age. The managers I’ve worked under, the backroom staff, all of my team-mates over the years who have become my brothers, and most importantly you guys.

“I wish you all the best.”

The young midfielder departs Stamford Bridge having won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Voted Chelsea’s player of the year for two consecutive seasons, Mount scored 33 goals and provided 37 assists in 195 appearances for the Blues, and his departure continues the line of recent sales that also includes Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic (Manchester City) and German forward Kai Havertz (Arsenal).
