‘It’s too much’ – Morocco’s Mazraoui lends voice on congested fixture schedule

Manchester United and Morocco full-back Noussair Mazraoui is the latest player to lend his voice on the growing fixture schedule of the European football season saying “it is too much”, Afrosport reports.

There have been growing concerns on the workload the expanded football calendar which includes the extended FIFA Club World Cup, will have on players.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri already suggested players could go on strike in protest, days before he ironically suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Mazraoui, speaking ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League tie with FC Twente, stated that while some players can play so many games with a high level of fitness, it will eventually tell on their bodies.

“I think for sure a lot of a lot of players would be able to play up to 70 games. But yeah, realistically what you see is that – what I said – a big team who plays a lot of matches, they’re not able to play this many games,” the Moroccan said.

“You see one or two players who played up to 70 [games] and being fit the whole season. I don’t really think there’s yet – or there will be eventually – something which you can prepare for this.

“Because it’s getting more every season. Every season you see more and more injuries. I think eventually that if you see this altogether, that it’s too much.”

Mazraoui joined United from Bayern Munich this summer and has gone on to play five times, providing one assist.
