Moroccan shot-stopper and newly-crowned African Goalkeeper of the Year, Yassine Bono, headlines the final three-man shortlist for the men’s category of The Best FIFA Goalkeeper award, the world football governing body, FIFA, announced earlier today.
Bono, who was crowned Africa’s best goalkeeper at the 2023 CAF Awards in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday night, won the Europa League with Sevilla last season and was an integral part of the Atlas Lions team that reached the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Saudi-based goalkeeper will have to contend with Real Madrid and Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois, as well as Brazil and treble-winning Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.

In the women’s category, Manchester United and England women’s goalkeeper Mary Earps lead the shortlist for the award alongside World Cup winner and Barcelona Femeni goalie Catalina Coll and Australia’s Mackenzie Arnold.
The final shortlist for both the men’s and women’s categories of The Best FIFA Goalkeeper Award was selected by an international jury comprising of four groups: women’s and men’s national team coaches (one per team), women’s and men’s national team captains (one per team), one specialist journalist from each territory represented by a national team, and fans from all over the world registered on FIFA.com.
The winner of each category will be announced at the ceremony in London, England, on Monday, January 15, 2024.
