Morocco join Spain & Portugal to bid for 2030 World Cup

Morocco have announced that they will face the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations host nation, Ivory Coast in an international friendly on October 14.

The Atlas Lions will travel to Abidjan to face Jean-Louis Gasset’s team before returning home to host Liberia in Agadir for their final AFCON 2023 qualifying match that was postponed in September.

Morocco currently sit second in Group K of their AFCON 2023 qualifiers, with victory against Liberia expected to push them ahead of South Africa.

The Atlas Lions are yet to lift the AFCON title since their maiden success in 1976 but they managed to reach the quarter-final of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon where they lost to Egypt in extra-time.

Morocco and Ivory Coast have faced each other on several occasions, 21 games in total that ended in seven wins, seven losses and seven draws. The most recent match between the two countries was at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt that ended 1-0, in favour of the North Africans.
