New Manchester United signing Bryan Mbeumo has compared head coach Ruben Amorim with his former coach at Brentford, Thomas Frank, citing the similar values both men have, Afrosport reports.
The Cameroonian became the second summer signing for the Red Devils after he was officially unveiled on Monday, penning a five-year deal worth £71 million.
Mbeumo spent six years under the watch of Frank at Brentford, playing a central role in the Bees’ stability in the Premier League since their top-flight promotion in 2021.
He believes Amorim will be able to bring the best out of the United squad just like Frank did at Brentford before his depature to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
“I think they have similar values,” Mbeumo said in his first interview. “He seems really close to his players and his mentality, his winning thinking every time. This is a thing that I need.
“It seems to be a really good group. I think the spirit is really important for winning, and with the gaffer, I heard only good things about the team.”
Mbeumo’s transfer to United stretched for over a month, and despite interest from other clubs like Tottenham, he reiterated he was only keen to move to the red half of Manchester.
“From the start, I wanted to join this club, this massive club, and now I’m here and I’m just really happy,” he added.
“For me, it’s the biggest club in the world, in England as well. I think the fans are crazy, the stadium is amazing, and I think every player wants to play here.
“I think my first top was a Manchester United top with Ronaldo behind. It’s just such a big club and I’m really happy to be here.”
