France and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has won the European Golden Boot for the 2024-25 season, Afrosport reports.
Mbappe, who also claimed the Pichichi trophy as the top scorer in La Liga, netted 31 league goals for Los Blancos in his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The 26-year-old did enough to win the European Golden Boot, fending off competition from Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.
Mbappe’s 31 league goals earned him 62 points in the rankings (two points per goal), making him the first Real Madrid player since Cristiano Ronaldo to win the European Golden Boot.
Gyokeres followed in second, with his 39 goals in the Primeira Liga earning him 58.5 points as the Portuguese top-flight is only awarded 1.5 points for each goal unlike Europe’s top five leagues (Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1).
Salah, who won the Premier League Golden Boot and helped Liverpool to their 20th English league title, garnered 58 points with his 29 league goals to finish third.
Mbappe, meanwhile, wins the award for the first time and is the second French forward to earn the honour after former Arsenal and Barcelona star Thierry Henry, who won it twice—outrightly in the 2003-04 season before sharing it with Diego Forlan in 2004-05.
The France international enjoyed a stellar opening campaign with Real Madrid, scoring 42 goals in all competitions.
