Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta has been released from hospital after suffering an horrific injury in the FA Cup fifth round tie with Millwall on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
The French forward of Congolese heritage was taken to hospital after he was kicked in the head by Millwall goalkeeper Liam Robert.
Roberts was sent off in the eighth minute following VAR review while Mateta was substituted seven minutes later after receiving oxygen on the pitch and was replaced by Eddie Nketiah.
Mateta took to social media to say he was doing well and looking forward to returning to action soon.
Palace later provided an update that the 27-year-old has been released from hospital after needing 25 stitches on his left ear.
“We are very pleased to confirm that JP Mateta has this evening been discharged from St George’s Hospital where he received specialist treatment and 25 stitches to a severe laceration to his left ear. All scans were clear and JP is feeling well,” read a statement on the club website.
“He will now rest and recuperate over the following days where his progress will be monitored by our club doctor.
“Thank you to the medical staff at both Selhurst Park and the hospital for their help and professionalism, and for all the wishes of support that JP and the club have received today.”

Crystal Palace defeated Millwall 3-1 and have progressed into the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Mateta is their leading goalscorer has scored 15 goals in 33 games this season.
