England international Mason Mount will not suit up for Manchester United when they welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford this Sunday.
The 25-year-old is set to be sidelined for the next “few games” after suffering a “minor muscle injury” in their last Premier League match against Brighton and Hove Albion.
The midfielder was substituted at halftime during United’s visit to the Amex Stadium, where they suffered their first defeat in the league this season.
Having missed a huge part of the last campaign, Mount, who started the last three matches for Erik ten Hag’s men, is now set for a short spell on the sidelines.
In a statement released on his social media platforms on Thursday, the English midfielder informed United fans of this new setback. The post read: “During the last game I picked up a minor muscle issue.
“I’ve had it checked and it looks like I’ll be out for a few games. Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.
“I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.”
Mount joined the Red Devils on a five-year deal worth around £60 million in July 2023, and he has so far failed to cement his place in the starting eleven, scoring once and providing one assist in 23 appearances since his move to Old Trafford.
The former Chelsea midfielder adds to United’s list of injured players, which includes new signing Leny Yoro, Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund, Dutch defender Tyrell Malacia, Swede Victor Lindelof, and English left-back Luke Shaw, and he will now have to work his way to full fitness aided by next week’s international break.
