Marmoush: Egypt forward reflects on ‘amazing’ Manchester City debut

Maresca insists on Chelsea improvement despite poor run of results

Omar Marmoush has described his Manchester City debut as an “amazing” one after the Citizens defeated Chelsea 3-1 in the Premier League on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

The Egypt international joined in a £59 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt and was thrust straight into the starting line-up.

Marmoush put in a good performance and had found the back of the net but was ruled out for offside.

He was also flagged offside on three other occasions, highlighting his eagerness to get into goalscoring positions.

“Yeah, it was an amazing debut,” Marmoush said after the game.

“I’m really happy to be here. The debut was really, really nice.

“We won the game and it was a crazy atmosphere out there. I’m so happy to be here.

“Hopefully I will keep going that way. It is just the beginning and here’s to many more wins.

Meanwhile, Erling Haaland also reflected on the performance of Marmoush, saying: “I think especially in the first-half you can see he has something special, he said. “There’s a reason City brought him because he has something special. He got straight in the team and It’s about getting to know him as soon as possible because there are so many important games coming.

“It’s about giving him confidence and he’s going to be a fantastic player for us. It’s always nice [to have new faces]. I’ve been a new player before trying to come in with a different energy and different personality.

“…He had an amazing first half of the season for Eintracht Frankfurt and hopefully he’s going to have the same season with us now for the second half of the season.”

One new City signing that did not have a pleasant debut was Abdukodir Khusanov who was culpable for the opening goal scored by Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.

City boss Guardiola was not upset about the performance owing to how the 20-year-old Uzbek centre-back was thrown into the starting XI without much training and also the language barrier.

“What I thought was it is not the best start, right? He will take the lessons; he is young and has come for many years,” the Spaniard stated.

“It is not easy. I love the reaction of his mates. He made one training session. He will learn. He is young and he will take a lesson from that.

“…He doesn’t speak English. In that situation there isn’t much to say, he knows he made a mistake. What can I say – don’t make a mistake! He knows it!,”

City’s win took them up to fourth on the Premier League table, three points behind third-placed Nottingham Forest and 12 points behind leaders Liverpool.
