Mane nets first Premier League goal as Wolves get first win of the season

Mateus Mane scored his first-ever Premier League goal and starred in a dominant first-half display as Wolverhampton Wanderers claimed their first league win of the season, cruising to a 3-0 victory over West Ham on Saturday at Molineux, Afrosport reports.

Mane, who is of Guinea-Bissau descent, born in Portugal and raised in England, capped an impressive performance by finding the net before halftime. His goal, along with strikes from Jhon Arias and Hwang Hee-Chan, secured Wolves’ first three points of the campaign.

Wolves struck three times in the opening half and controlled the match from the outset. Arias opened the scoring, Hwang doubled the lead, and 18-year-old Mane added the third to give the hosts a comfortable advantage they maintained after the break.

Despite the win, Wolves remain bottom of the Premier League table with six points from 20 matches, having doubled their season total after entering the weekend with just three points.

West Ham’s struggles continued as their winless run stretched to nine league matches. The Hammers remain four points adrift of 17th-placed Nottingham Forest and are under increasing pressure in the relegation battle. The absence of Lucas Paqueta was evident, with West Ham lacking creativity and penetration in attack.

Wolves travel to Everton on Wednesday before hosting Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup third round next Saturday. West Ham host Nottingham Forest on Tuesday in a crucial league match, then welcome QPR in the FA Cup on Sunday.

In other games on Saturday, Ollie Watkins continued his recent streak of form for Aston Villa with a goal in the 3-1 win over Midland rivals  Nottingham Forest, while Brighton & Hove Albion edged Burnley 2-0 at the Amex Stadium.
