Manchester United reportedly close to appointing Sporting Lisbon boss Amorim

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on appointing Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim after sacking Erik ten Hag, Afrosport reports.

Ten Hag was dismissed on Monday, a day after United suffered their fourth Premier League defeat of the season at West Ham which dropped them to 14th in the table and left them with one win in their last eight games in all competitions.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are willing to pay the €10 million release clause to secure the services of the 39-year-old, whose Sporting Lisbon side sits top of the Portugal Liga table.

Amorim has won two Portuguese league titles and two Portuguese League Cups with Sporting since joining the club in March 2020.
