Manchester United hierarchy maintain faith in Amorim despite poor season start

The Manchester United board have maintained their faith in head coach Ruben Amorim despite the poor start to the 2025-26 season, Afrosport reports.

The Red Devils are yet to win a game, losing 1-0 at home to rivals Arsenal followed by a 1-1 draw at Fulham on Sunday.

The latest upset saw them crash out of the EFL Cup after their penalty shootout loss to League Two side Grimsby Town on Tuesday.

It led to suggestions Amorim might be on borrowed time as he has only managed to pick up 29 points from 28 games since he took charge last November, making him the United head coach with the lowest win percentage (24.1%) since Sir Alex Ferguson retired 12 years ago.

According to BBC Sport, the United hierarchy acknowledge it would take time for Amorim to make the desired impact after backing him with more than £200 million for the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, and are not willing to go the route of how previous boss Erik ten Hag was dismissed despite being backed last summer.

On the departure side, Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on loan while Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund are poised to join Chelsea, Real Betis and Napoli respectively.

Amorim will be hoping for a positive result when United host Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
