Manchester City captain Kyle Walker has revealed that the team will be training on Christmas Day, breaking their usual holiday tradition, Afrosport reports.
Players would usually have the day off to spend time with their families on Christmas day but with City facing Everton in the early kick off fixture on Boxing Day, there will be need for them to have some training session before the game.
Speaking on his You’ll never beat Kyle Walker podcast, the 34-year-old said: “We’ve been lucky in the last few seasons to have Christmas Day off.
“This year, we’re training because we’ve got Everton at 12:30 on Boxing Day. It’s not ideal, but it’s necessary.”
With Manchester City slipping to seventh in the Premier League, Guardiola is desperate to get his squad back on track.
The comes after a string of disappointing results, including a recent loss 2-1 loss at Aston Villa.
The struggles have left them almost out of the title race, which is why they are to train due to the crucial fixtures against Everton on Boxing Day and Leicester City just days later.
Guardiola’s decision to sacrifice Christmas celebrations is seen as his determination to reignite City’s campaign with the games against Everton and Leicester a must-win to avoid dropping further down the table.
