Manchester City recorded their first win over Liverpool in 22 years in front of a full Anfield crowd by taking a 2-1 Premier League victory on Sunday, Afrosport reports.
The Citizens were fresh off a 3-1 and 5-1 aggregate win over Newcastle United in the EFL semi-finals in midweek to set up a final showdown with league leaders and rivals Arsenal.
After a goalless first half in the red half of Merseyside, Pep Guardiola’s men went behind in the 74th minute through a sublime Dominik Szoboszlai free kick.
City were however able to level 10 minutes later when Erling Haaland assisted Bernardo Silva. The former would go on to score the winner in the seventh minute of an additional nine minutes from the penalty spot for his 21st league goal of the season.
Rayan Cherki thought he made it 3-1 in the 100th minute when he put the ball into an empty net. It was however ruled out by VAR for a foul in the build-up which resulted in Szoboszlai being given a straight red card for stopping a goalscoring opportunity.

The result took City back to six points behind Arsenal while Liverpool remain sixth and are now five points away from the top four.
In the earlier Sunday game, 2025 Africa Cup of Nations champion Ismaila Sarr scored the only goal as Crystal Palace defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 at the Amex Stadium.
