Man Utd agree deal to sign Malian teenager Sekou Kone

Manchester United continue to make moves in the summer transfer window as reports suggest that the Premier League club have agreed a deal to sign Malian teenage sensation Sekou Kone.

The Red Devils have reportedly reached an agreement worth around £1 million plus add-ons with Guidars FC for Kone, who represented Mali at both the under-17 Africa Cup of Nations and U17 FIFA World Cup.

The 18-year-old defensive midfielder attracted attention from several clubs in Europe, including Austria’s RB Salzburg and Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

At the U17 AFCON, Kone was an integral part of the Malian team that reached the semifinals of the tournament before losing to Morocco on penalties.

He also helped Mali reach the semifinals of the U17 World Cup, where they lost 2-1 to France before beating Argentina 3-0 in the third-place match. During the tournament, Kone helped the young Eagles with two assists.

The youngster is expected to fly to Manchester next week to undergo his medical before signing a long-term contract with United, where he is expected to suit up for their U21 side in a bid to enhance his development and ease him into the first team fold.
