His injury is a major blow for City, who have not lost in the last 48 Premier League matches in which he has started. They were, however, beaten in four out of the five games Rodri missed last season, while he has lost just once in 50 appearances in all competitions.
Rodri, who was named player of the tournament at Euro 2024 in July, travelled to Spain to see a specialist following initial tests in Manchester.
The midfielder’s unfortunate injury comes a week after he revealed that players are close to going on a strike over the increased number of games as he played 63 times last season for City and Spain.
