Liverpool manager Arne Slot has predicted Mohamed Salah will have longevity in the game after he set a new record in Liverpool’s opening Premier League game against Ipswich Town at the weekend, Afrosport reports.
The Egyptian superstar scored a goal and assisted another for Diogo Jota as the Reds defeated the newly-promoted side 2-0 at Portman Road.
He set a new record for scoring nine goals on the opening day of the season, which is the most of any player, ahead of legendary names Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer.
“If I see what he does to keep his body as it is and to be ready to play every game, I think there are many more years inside of him to play. But, if you’re OK with it, I am looking now at Brentford and not at the end of the season!,” Slot said.
When quizzed on why he has a knack for scoring season openers, Salah said: “I don’t know! Hopefully I’ll keep going like this through the whole season, not just the first game! I try to help the team all the time.
“The most important thing is that the team wins the game. I’m always happy to score goals and to give assists so I just need to carry on.”
