Liverpool & Man City beg fans ahead of their Carabao Cup clash

Following clashes at recent games, Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester City have reaffirmed their commitment to dealing with disruptive behavior.

This comes before they lock horns at Etihad Stadium in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Thursday.

A joint letter was sent to the supporters of both clubs, asking them to report any incidents that may cause harm.

The letter from Liverpool and Manchester City chief executives Billy Hogan and Ferran Soriano read:

“The passion and enthusiasm that we see from our fans when we play each other – at the Etihad Stadium or Anfield – is part of what makes matches between our clubs so special.”

“Regrettably, based on recent meetings between our clubs, we also know that a minority of fans are responsible for behaviours and actions that have no place in our game.

“We are therefore writing to ask for your full support in tackling these behaviours and to ensure that both of our clubs’ good names are preserved.”

The clubs held a meeting with their respective fan communities in November with the hopes of committing to improving working ties.

Liverpool beat Manchester City 1-0 at home in the Premier League when they last met in October.

Although Liverpool criticized “vile” shouts from the away end, City manager Pep Guardiola claimed that fans at Anfield hurled coins at him during the game.

The recent issues of violence when the two clubs meet also go back to when the City team coach was attacked before a UEFA Champions League encounter against the Merseyside club in 2018.

The City group were also left unhappy with comments from Jurgen Klopp about their spending power.
