Leverkusen’s Tella unfazed by Ten Hag’s difficult stint at Man United

Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella is unfazed by Erik Ten Hag’s difficult stint when he was in charge of Manchester United, Afrosport reports.

The Dutch tactician was dismissed last November after a poor start to the 2024-25 season which was a continuation of the previous campaign when they finished eighth.

Ten Hag has now been appointed as manager of Bayer Leverkusen, taking over from Xabi Alonso who replaced Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

Tella, speaking on his appointment, preferred not to talk of his struggles with United but focused more on the achievements he had with Ajax between 2018 and 2022.

“I try not to pay attention to things on social media, but you know, I could see there was a lot of excitement—and even for myself,” the Nigerian forward said.

“He’s still a good manager. Of course, he’s had a difficult run at Manchester United, but that doesn’t take away what he did before he came to United, what he did with Ajax.

“So I’m happy he’s got the opportunity to work with us, and I’ve got the opportunity to work with him. I’m looking forward to it.”

Tella is currently part of the Super Eagles squad at the Unity Cup 2025 tournament in London.

He was an unused substitute in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Ghana.
