Leicester City have confirmed the departure of Ghana defender Daniel Amartey and Senegal midfielder Nampalys Mendy upon the expiration of their contracts.
The African duo are among the seven first-team players that will be leaving the King Power Stadium after their relegation from the Premier League.
The others are Youri Tielemans, Tete, Caglar Soyuncu, Ryan Bertrand and Ayoze Perez.
Amartey joined the Foxes from FC Copenhagen in January 2016 and he was part of the Premier League title-winning squad in the 2015-16 campaign.
The 28-year-old Ghanaian established his presence in Leicester City’s defence with over 150 appearances for the club, including 20 Premier League games this season.
Meanwhile, Mendy arrived in England from French club OGC Nice in the summer of 2016 and his debut campaign was disrupted by injuries as he made only four Premier League games.
The Senegal international bounced back to top shape after his loan to OGC Nice for the 2017-18 season and he played 19 Premier League matches in the just-concluded season and he scored his only goal for the club in a 4-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur in February 2023.
The duo’s exit leaves Nigeria internationals Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, Zambia’s Patson Daka as the three Africans on the Foxes’ books who will play in the English second division next season.
