Leicester City boss Smith delivers worrying update on Iheanacho

Leicester City manager Dean Smith has disclosed that Kelechi Iheanacho’s injury does not look good after he limped off in their 1-1 Premier League draw against Leeds United on Tuesday night.

The Super Eagles forward was involved in the build-up to Vardy’s goal in the 80th minute that cancelled out Leeds United’s opening goal.

Iheanacho appeared to be in pain after the equaliser and he was replaced by Dennis Praet in the 82nd minute.

On Wednesday, Smith said it is too early to confirm the severity of the injury which makes the 26-year-old doubtful for the Foxes’ league match against Alex Iwobi’s Everton on May 1.

“It’s too soon, He felt his groin and it didn’t look great, so we’ll have to wait until we get a scan on it,” Smith told the club website.

Leicester City are 17th in the league table with a point above the relegation zone and Iheanacho has scored five Premier League goals in 26 matches this season – the third-highest tally in the Foxes’ set-up.

However, Smith was impressed by Nigeria international’s performance, which complemented the introduction of Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka in the second half.

He continued: “Vards and Pato (Patson Daka) coming on, I thought we then starting penetrating with our football,” he explained. “We opened them a couple of times. Vards gets the goal. Kel [Iheanacho] did really well. Madders also did well.”
