Leagues Cup: Nigeria’s Agada scores in Real Salt Lake win over Club America

Nigerian forward William Agada found the back of the net as MLS side Real Salt Lake defeated Mexican giants Club America on penalties in the Leagues Cup after a 2-2 draw in regular time, Afrosport reports.

Diego Luna put Salt Lake ahead after 16 minutes, with the lead lasting until the 42nd minute when Brian Rodriguez equalised for Club America.

Real Salt Lake were however back in front three minutes later as Agada headed in a cross from Noel Caliskan.

It marked the third year in a row the 25-year-old Bauchi-born player scored in the Leagues Cup, doing so previously in the colours of Sporting Kansas City.

It was also his third goal for Real Salt Lake this season, having scored twice in the MLS against Texas sides Austin FC and Houston Dynamo.


Pablo Mastroeni’s team were unable to hold on to their lead as Erick Sanchez scored deep in added time of the second half to make it 2-2 for Club America.

Salt Lake triumphed 3-1 in the resultant penalty shootout and will next face Atletico de San Luis who lost 4-0 to Portland Timbers.
