La Liga Roundup: Real Madrid edge past Osasuna as Villarreal, Leganes claim home wins

Real Madrid bounced back from two consecutive home defeats in all competitions with a comfortable 4-0 win over Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu in matchday 13 in La Liga on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

Vinicius Junior opened the scoring in the 34th minute with his sixth league goal of the season. The Brazilian beat Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera with a deft right-footed finish into the near post after pouncing on a pass from Jude Bellingham.

Bellingham then turned goal scorer eight minutes later, extending the lead for Los Blancos with his first goal of the season. The England international latched on to superb over-the-top pass from Raul Asencio, who came on for the injured Eder Militao, before superbly lobbing Herrera.

Vinicius made it three to Madrid with his second goal of the game in the 61st minute. The 24-year-old got on the end of a quick outlet pass from goalkeeper Andriy Lunin and beat an Osasuna defender for pace before rounding Herrera and passing the ball into an empty net.

The Brazil international completed his hat-trick eight minutes later after substitute Brahim Diaz stole the ball off Osasuna’s Enzo Boyomo before sliding it across to Vinicius, who sent in a right-footed finish over the line.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men are now on 27 points and have closed their gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona to six points.

Elsewhere, at the Estadi de la Ceràmica, Villarreal extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to three games and moved into third in the standings following a 3-0 home win against Alaves.

Ilias Akhomach’s wonder strike in the 38th minute put the Yellow Submarines in the lead, while second-half goals from Dani Parejo and substitute Santi Comesana wrapped up all available points for Villarreal, while Alaves suffered their sixth defeat in seven league games.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s other game in La Liga saw Leganes claim a crucial 1-0 win over 10-man Sevilla at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.

An 82nd-minute goal from Miguel de la Fuente, who converted a penalty after Lucien Agoume’s moment of madness, was all it took for Leganes to claim all three points and move into 14th in the standings, while Sevilla lost for a second straight game.
